This and that. That and this.

This isn't really a blog post. Just a drive-by of sorts. I am trying to do a better job of journaling our lives since I've never been a "diary keeper" or baby book updater.. is that a word?

The boys were PERFECT at the wedding yesterday. I was so proud of them! We spent the time between the wedding and the reception (6 hours!) with my sweet friend Jaime and her family. Jaime has been my best friend for as long as I can remember and I'm so excited to be running a 5K with her next month!!! I should probably be a little jealous of her and the fact that she can run at least 4 miles any given day with no problem and JUST HAD A BABY IN FEBRUARY... but I'm not, not really anyway;) I'm so thankful to have such an amazing woman in my life who loves the Lord and isn't afraid to tell me what I NEED to hear, even when it isn't something I WANT to hear. And did I mention she is a friend from Louisiana who just happened to marry a military man and now lives only 1 hour away? Um, score?

In other news, the wedding was beautiful and the reception was a blast. In lieu of a cake, (the groom doesn't like cake... red flag of sorts?) the couple decided to have a chocolate fountain with bananas, strawberries, pretzels and other goodies for dipping. JT and Finley were in chocolate heaven. Their faces were filthy!!! And the best part? The boys slept super late this morning because they were worn slap out. You didn't know that was a phrase did you? Worn slap out. It is. And I use it all the time thankyouverymuch. That's a real word too, just so you know.

Just for Fun

I know a lot of parents who try to teach their babies to read at 6 months or give their children math scenerios in the car ("if a train leaves the station at...."). John and myself? We do crap like this because it's so much more fun. I found this video last night:

Weekend Wedding

A sweet friend of mine is getting married tomorrow and I will be taking the boys to the wedding by myself since John is out of town. I am excited for her but nervous about my children's behavior. However, it has taken me back to the days before my own wedding and I have been looking for pictures to show the boys so they might understand a little bit more of what we will be experiencing. They still don't get it but it's a start...

Give Thanks

Sometimes I get frustrated when my children thank God for material things at nighttime prayers - like their transformers or legos... but I have to trust that this is a starting point for a life-long relationship with their Creator and be proud that they are at least thankful for those things right? RIGHT?

Today we are drawing pictures and sending cards to some of our favorite people. I, personally, still love to get a handwritten letter every now and again...

Sing your heart out

My kiddos love to sing - can you tell? Today we will turn the music up and sing our hearts out, because, well, who doesn't like to do that?

*This picture is from yesterday... After we ran through the sprinklers I decided to go for a run and wouldn't you know the dog was too tired so she hopped in the stroller. There's a reason we call her "lazy" Daisy:)

I thought today would be a good day to let the boys make a small craft. Nothing fancy schmancy or anything, just something they could get creative with and express themselves. I asked them to draw how they feel about God....



J.T. wrote, "win i senc abawt god i senc of the bibl." Translation: When I think about God, I think of the Bible. (He actually says think as "sink" so I guess I"m proud that he uses his phonics correctly!)Then he drew a little picture of him reading his bible. Finley on the other hand drew a pirate or something unrecognizable and promptly forgot about it so I didn't bother to take a picture.

First Day of Summer

School is out.. finally! I can't wait to spend so much time with the boys. Don't get me wrong, I love my two afternoons a week where they are both in school but recently I have felt this overwhelming sadness at how fast they are growing up. Where did the time go? Today we are going to play outside, run through the sprinklers, eat lunch in bathing suits and just enjoy each other's company. We are slowly making our way through the Children's Storybook Bible and the Old Testament and I think there may be something to starting one's day in the Word of God.... which is exactly what we will be doing every day this summer.

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul." Psalms 143:8
